You probably wouldn’t expect to find Boston’s newest sartorial hot-spot located in the city’s most bucolic neighborhood. But it’s this exact contradiction that makes Uncle Pete’s Shop poised to revive the city’s fashion sense — currently inundated with North Face fleece jackets, Vineyard Vines whale prints, and badly dyed designer jeans — with its discriminating downtown style.

I stopped in to check out Uncle Pete’s just the other day and discovered a dizzying selection of Vena Cava dresses, Under.ligne tops, and a great little white lace number by SEA, New York. After prying my hands away from an amazing silk top, I wandered toward the shoe selection, where a pair of black suede Tretorn high-tops caught my eye — at $70 they may just land on my feet yet. A quick glance at the menswear selection includes labels like, Cloak & Dagger, Simon Miller, Rag & Bone, Commes des Garcons, and Rogues Gallery. The shop also carries bags by Porter (!) and jewelry by Bing Bang.
This week, Uncle Pete’s plays host to Rogues Gallery for an in-store t-shirt making event! It starts at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 9:00 p.m. on April 1, 2010. For more information, see Uncle Pete’s blog.
